THIRATHEN the Museum of Greek folk music, musical instruments, research and documentation is located at the historical village Krousonas just 15 km from Heraklion. The meaning of the name Thirathen comes from «Thirathen pedia/education» which was the classical education in the Byzantium which had secular nature).
In a recently renovated traditional house, where the sounds of nature meet the sounds of traditional instruments and fascinating melodies are created ,the visitor has the chance to experience the charm of Mediterranean music.
One of the purposes of the Museum is to introduce not only to the local society,Greek traditional music, but to all visitors that are fascinated by tradition,history and music altogether.
The visitor has the opportunity to get familiar with the local traditional instruments along with those music instruments from the neighbouring countries of Greece.
