The Museum of Traditional Music, Instruments, Research and Documentation ''Thyrathen'' in collaboration with musician and singer Maria Koti, is creating a traditional song workshop for adults:

"Songs from end to end in the Lakoudian narrows "Lakkos choir", Choir "Lakkos" Every Thursday in the picturesque narrows of Lakkos, at the Museum "Thyrathen" will echo cycles of songs from the entire spectrum of our musical tradition regardless of origin and genre, from one end of our world to the other! What can you expect?

1. Nothing more important than the enjoyment of music and the lyrics of songs as a guaranteed medicine for the affected and troubled areas of our souls!

2. From the urban beaches of Crete and its hinterland, the rebetika and folk songs of that time to beloved traditional songs from various corners of Greece but also modern as well as "unknown" rare, expensive and beloved from the music of the world!

3. An attempt at substantial creative coexistence and co-emotion on the occasion of the songs of different traditions with the main goal of personal expression and experiential approach of, through and from our own personal experiences and deep expressive needs, the role of songs in the present, how they speak to us in today!

4. Readiness exercises in relation to the technique of songs (warming up the voice, breathing, group exercises)

5. Joy, detoxification, tears, laughter. An explosion of love hormones and their consequences, in an era of increased seriousness when we have special needs to redefine our identity more than ever and when "... Magical images have locked our thinking and speech" (Hainides)...

The choir takes its name and honors the history of the Lakkos district, a place of osmosis of cultural elements and origins and of old Heraklion with special tributes to urban singing (rebetiko, Smyrna, Cretan rebetiko and amanedes)

Where the East met the West and the hinterland met the refugee
