The seminar focuses on the rhythmic affinities of the Southern Balkans, through a common practical "cell" that appears in different versions: 9/8. 12/8 and 16/8.

We start from a slow rhythmic core and move it step by step to different metrical versions, as they are activated in various musical and dance contexts.

The goal is to acquire a common practical vocabulary, so that musicians and dancers can agree on the relationship of step, intonation and percussion, and to methodically experience transitions from one version to another through movement. At the end, the participants will be able to recognize and translate rhythmic shifts from step to measure and from measure to step.

What will we work on

• rhythmic cultivation with body, voice and percussion accompaniment

• connecting rhythmic accents with movements and steps

• transitions 9/8 → 12/8 → 16/8 in small groups (musicians-dancers together)

• the second day: more experimental exploration of intermediate rhythmic ideas with the help of digital tools (AI), which are tested on site and are only retained when they work in practice.

Who is it for: Musicians (all instruments and voices), dancers, dance teachers and people from the traditional / world-music field. No theoretical knowledge is required; a willingness to work in practice and collaborate is required.

Documentation: Limited video recording will be made for documentation and subsequent educational/research use, only with consent. Part of the material may be presented (in anonymous or named form) at a scientific conference in May in Heraklion.

Participation: 50 euros (the entire seminar)
